There are 15 train pages here, and they are not all the same kind of drawing. A few are simple enough for a quick crayon page; others show wheels, rails, smoke and locomotive details that are much more satisfying with colored pencils.
If the person coloring is mainly interested in the shape of the train, start with one of the clean side-view outlines. The steam locomotives are better when the fun is in the machinery—wheels, rods, windows and the contrast between the dark engine and the lighter smoke.
Print setup and color ideas
Open the image at full size, save it, then print on A4 or Letter paper with “fit to page” selected. For a traditional steam-engine look, charcoal, black, deep red and steel gray work well together. The cute trains do not need to follow that palette at all.
For more vehicles, the police car pages are simple and bold, while the sports car and race car sets have faster, more modern shapes.

Which train page should you choose?
- Young children: choose simple trains with large wheels and fewer background details.
- Steam-train fans: use darker body colors and lighter highlights around pipes, wheels and smoke.
- Realistic locomotives: colored pencils are useful for windows, rails and mechanical details.
- Cute trains: try brighter colors and simple sky or station backgrounds.
Color the train body before the tracks and scenery so it stays the main focus. Leaving small white highlights on dark wheels or metal panels also makes the locomotive easier to read after coloring.
