Check the crop before using it
Apply the image to the lock screen first and move it until the main detail sits clear of the clock and widgets. If you also want it on the home screen, preview a page of app icons before keeping it; busy details behind labels can make a dark wallpaper surprisingly hard to use.

Choosing the right dark wallpaper
For a cleaner home screen, choose designs with open dark areas behind app icons. More detailed or trippy images often work better on the lock screen, where fewer interface elements cover the artwork. If your screen crops the top or bottom, reposition the image before saving the final wallpaper setting.
