Downloaded a wallpaper from Do It Before Me but not sure how to make it look right on your screen? The actual setup only takes a minute. The problems usually come afterward: the image looks blurry, the subject is cropped, the clock covers the important part, or a phone wallpaper is being stretched across a desktop monitor.
This guide shows how to save and set a wallpaper on iPhone, Android, Samsung Galaxy, Windows and Mac, plus how to fix the most common wallpaper problems without distorting the image.
Before you set the wallpaper: use the full-size image
For the sharpest result, save the full-size wallpaper from the collection page rather than taking a screenshot or saving a small preview. A screenshot may include browser controls, reduce usable resolution or crop part of the artwork before your phone or computer even applies it.
Also choose an image made for roughly the same screen shape. Portrait wallpapers work best on phones, while landscape images are usually a better starting point for laptops and desktop monitors. You can still use the opposite orientation, but more cropping will be required.
How to set a wallpaper on iPhone
- Save the full-size image to Photos.
- Open Settings → Wallpaper.
- Tap Add New Wallpaper, then choose Photos.
- Select the downloaded image and position it in the preview.
- Tap Add.
- Choose Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it on both screens, or Customize Home Screen if you want a different Home Screen treatment.
Before confirming, look at the clock and widgets. If a face, car, character or other focal point sits behind the time, reposition the image slightly rather than accepting an awkward crop. On supported iPhones you can also customize the Lock Screen separately.
How to set a wallpaper on Android
Android menu names vary by manufacturer, so the exact wording may be slightly different on your phone.
Google Pixel
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen.
- Open Wallpaper & style.
- Choose the wallpaper/photo option and select the downloaded image.
- Preview it, then apply it to the Home Screen, Lock Screen or both.
Samsung Galaxy
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen.
- Tap Wallpaper and style.
- Choose Change wallpapers and select the image from your Gallery.
- Adjust the crop, choose where you want to use it, and apply it.
If your Android phone uses different labels, search Settings for wallpaper. That is often faster than trying to follow instructions written for a different manufacturer.
How to set a wallpaper on Windows
- Open Settings → Personalization → Background.
- Under the background options, choose Picture.
- Select Browse and choose the downloaded wallpaper.
- Choose the fit option that works best for your monitor.
You can also right-click an image file in Windows and choose Set as desktop background.
| Windows fit option | Best use |
|---|---|
| Fill | Usually the best starting point. It fills the screen but may crop the edges. |
| Fit | Keeps the entire image visible, but may leave bars when the aspect ratio differs. |
| Stretch | Fills the display by changing the image proportions. Usually avoid this for artwork or photography. |
| Center | Keeps the image at its original size in the middle of the screen. |
| Span | Useful when one image is intended to extend across multiple monitors. |
How to set a wallpaper on Mac
- Open System Settings → Wallpaper.
- Choose one of your photos or use the option to add a photo or folder.
- Select the downloaded wallpaper.
- Adjust the available size or position options if the image does not match your display shape.
You can also control-click a compatible image in Finder and use the desktop-picture option for a faster setup.
Why does my wallpaper look cropped?
The image and your screen probably use different aspect ratios. A tall phone wallpaper cannot fill a wide monitor without losing part of the image, and a wide desktop wallpaper cannot completely fill a tall phone screen without cropping the sides.
The cleanest solution is to start with a wallpaper designed for the same general orientation as your screen. If you need to crop, protect the main subject first and allow less important background areas to sit near the edges.
Why does my wallpaper look blurry?
Blur usually happens when the saved image is much smaller than the display and the device has to enlarge it. Use the original/full-size file rather than a thumbnail, social-media preview or screenshot. A wallpaper does not need a “4K” label to look sharp; its actual pixel dimensions and how closely they match your screen are more important.
Lock Screen vs Home Screen: which wallpaper works best?
A good Lock Screen leaves visual breathing room around the clock, widgets and notifications. A good Home Screen keeps app icons readable. Very detailed or high-contrast artwork can look excellent on a Lock Screen but make icons difficult to see on the Home Screen.
If that happens, use a quieter image for the Home Screen, move the focal point away from the icons, or use a blur/dimming option when your device provides one.
Phone wallpaper vs desktop wallpaper
| Device | Usually works best |
|---|---|
| iPhone / Android | Portrait image with the main subject away from the clock and bottom controls. |
| Laptop / desktop | Landscape image with enough empty space around desktop icons and menus. |
| Multiple monitors | A wide landscape image designed to span a larger horizontal area. |
