The 33 pages here lean heavily toward cute, rounded crocodile and alligator characters, with a smaller number of more natural-looking scenes. For younger colorists, the easiest choices are the single animals on white backgrounds; the pages with plants, stars, clothing or scenery take longer and work better with colored pencils or fine-tip markers.
If you want a natural palette, start with olive, moss green, muted brown or gray-green and keep the belly a little lighter. The cartoon pages do not need to be realistic—pink, blue, yellow or patterned scales work just as well. On pages with water or plants, use a cooler background so the animal stays visually separate from the scenery.
