These 13 mushroom pages are simple, stylized illustrations rather than botanical identification drawings. That is useful for coloring: the caps are large, the stems are clear and there is plenty of room to add dots, stripes or completely invented patterns.
Pick the cap before the background
If you want a classic storybook look, use a red or warm orange cap with pale spots and keep the stem cream or tan. For an earthy page, combine rust, brown, olive and muted yellow. Fantasy mushrooms work well with violet, turquoise or pink, especially when the background stays quieter.
Add texture without making the page busy
Use one darker shade under the cap and around the base of the stem, then stop. A few spots or short lines usually create enough texture. These drawings are not intended to identify real mushroom species, so color them for appearance rather than realism. Open the full-size image before printing; our printing guide covers paper and marker settings.
